The importance of flossing

Written By sharon on March 5, 2010

I read in the Sun newspaper last Saturday that a 36-year-old woman was caught flossing her teeth while driving 70 mph on a motorway in Wales.

The woman was fined after police officers spotted her allegedly flossing her teeth and looking in her vehicle’s rear view mirror, all while she was speeding along on the M4 motorway.

“We’ve caught women applying lipstick and makeup and men using an electric razor on their way to work,” the spokesman said of the recent incident “but this is the first time we’ve seen someone flossing their teeth. It’s particularly dangerous because you need to use both hands.”

Our hygienist, Mary Barson, emphasises the importance of flossing for oral health. Flossing removes the tiny trapped food particles and also the plaque trapped between the teeth which a tooth brush cannot reach. But she recommends it is carried out when both hands are free, maybe in the bathroom is best?
